Jim Simpkins

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

James Simpkins (“Jim”) is a strategic global leader with C-Suite, executive committee and board director experience, transforming international businesses into highly visible multi-billion dollar organizations.  With 15+ years of C-Suite and President leadership experience, Jim has taken organizations and business units through organic growth and M&A, as well as restructuring and operational initiatives, improving sales, profit, technology, customer relations and manufacturing, strengthening companies’ competitive positioning and building business value. 

 

Throughout his career Jim has developed and leveraged a deep knowledge of global manufacturers and marketers of specialized extreme environment components and sub-systems for aerospace, defense and energy markets through his work with Meggitt companies, Crane Valve Group, Whittaker Corporation companies and others, including Rockwell International. He partners with senior executive teams and boards, advising on and managing full P&L operations generating up to $2.7B+ in sales with 10,500 employees.  Jim currently consults with major hedge fund and management consulting firms on key business aspects of aerospace component and subsystem manufacturing.  He helped grow Meggitt PLC from an approximate £375M business in 2000 to a £1.6B FTSE 100 organization by 2014, and he served as a Management Board Member for Meggitt PLC, from 2009-2016. 

 

In his most recent senior operational role, Jim served as Group President, Meggitt Control Systems, with full P&L accountability at this business unit for 6 years.  He grew the business to $575M revenue with $151M profit from $300M in revenue with $72M in profit, leading US and UK operations and eight manufacturing sites with 1,500 employees.  Jim orchestrated the successful acquisitions of Dunlop Standard Aerospace, K&F Industries and Pacific Scientific Inc., resulting in 306% revenue increase.  Then, integrating operations, he shifted the company to a “strategic mindset”, driving improved product sales, pricing, quality and services.  Jim established the “Voice of the Customer” program, which was key to significantly improving the customer/supplier relationship.   

 

He implemented LEAN systems to improve product quality and take costs out of the business on a daily basis, knowing supplier and customer goals and more effectively delivering upon expectations. On the technology side, Jim generated $2B of a $3B customer win with a new product technology.  To maintain momentum in technology break-through, Jim started Meggitt’s relationship with the Stanford Affiliate Program, opening eyes to technology evolution, as well as graduate and PhD candidates who could be and were recruited and retained by the company.  

 

Earlier, as President, Meggitt Safety Systems unit, Jim had full P&L accountability for operations generating $135M sales and $44M profit, leading 550 employees, producing aircraft fire detection and industrial fire and gas protection systems for airframe manufacturers, engine/APU system suppliers and airline end-users.  As Senior Vice President Meggitt Aeorospace Equipment, Jim led M&A, finance, aftermarket and IT functions for this strategic business unit business unit which was a supplier of Tier 2 components such as fluid control, fire detection and deicing systems.

 

Prior to Meggitt, Jim served in President and Chief Financial Officer Roles for Pacific Valves and Crane Valve Group, respectively.  At Crane, Jim doubled sales within two years in the Oil and Gas Industry from $28M to $65M.  He also leveraged LEAN principals to improve back office processes, reduce lead time and inventory, improve cash flow and enhance EVA.  Jim’s earlier career roles were principally in Finance and Accounting with Whittaker Corporation companies, DataProducts Inc., Craig Corporation, and Rockwell International.

 

Jim holds a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration, California State University Northridge, Northridge, CA.  He resides in Newport Beach, CA.
